A solo Turkish bath program, also known as a hammam experience, is a luxurious and rejuvenating way to spend a few hours pampering yourself. Here’s what you can expect:
Preparation:
Before entering the hammam, you’ll be given a peshtemal, a traditional Turkish towel, to wear. You can leave your belongings in a secure locker.
Warm-up:
The first step is to enter the tepidarium, a warm room that will help your body adjust to the heat. There may also be a sauna or steam room in this area.
Cleansing:
Next, you’ll move to the sıcaklık, the hottest room in the hammam. Here, you can lie on a heated stone platform called a göbektaşı while you sweat out toxins. A natır, or bath attendant, may pour warm water over you and scrub your body with a kese, a rough mitten made of horsehair or silk.
Relaxation:
After the cleansing, you can relax in the soğukluk, the cool room. Here, you can lie on a marble slab and enjoy the soothing sound of water trickling from fountains. You may also be offered a cup of Turkish tea or coffee.
Massage (Optional):
Some hammams offer optional massages after the bath. This can be a great way to further relax your muscles and release tension.
Benefits:
There are many benefits to experiencing a solo Turkish bath program. These include:
Improved circulation
Detoxification
Stress relief
Increased skin elasticity
Relaxation of muscles
Tips:
Drink plenty of water before and after your hammam experience.
Avoid shaving before your hammam experience, as the exfoliation can irritate your skin.
Be respectful of other bathers and maintain a quiet demeanor.
Tipping the natır is customary.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind when planning your solo Turkish bath program:

Bring a good book or magazine to read while you relax in the soğukluk.
Take your time and enjoy the experience. There’s no need to rush.
Listen to your body and take breaks if you feel overwhelmed by the heat.
Don’t be afraid to ask the natır for help if you need it.
